Re: The Raw Food Detox Diet
Sat, April 11, 2009 - 9:38 AMI make her Green Lemonade almost every morning. It's a wonderful elixir for breakfast and snack. Her concept of Levels can be very helpful for those transitioning into raw foods because she breaks it down so well. You don't feel like it's 0-100mph right away. And the recipes, including (especially!) the Level 1 (high-raw) recipes are goooooood. :)
Criticism: She doesn't discuss enough of the scientific research behind raw foods (others do that better, like Gabriel Cousens and Victoria Boutenko) but I think her work suffers from it, because some of her other work (Raw Food Life Force Energy) gets really unscientific and unsupportable.
Things like mushrooms and nama shoyu and dates are common in her recipes, while Cousens views them as toxic because they support fungal growth in the body (just repeating what he says - I don't know how scientifically valid that is).
She juices rather than blends her green (leafy greens + fruit) drinks, which eliminates the fiber and even some of the nutrients -- which is why Boutenko (12 Steps to Raw Foods, Green For Life) believes in green smoothies, not juices, for the majority of your green drinks. But I love that because juicing leads to a lighter beverage, and I just can't take heavy breakfasts. -
